Vikram-1 Test Marks India’s First Private Rocket Launch

  • Skyroot Aerospace, an Indian space-tech company, successfully fired Stage-2 of the Vikram-1 space launch vehicle, Kalam-250, at ISRO’s propulsion test bed in Sriharikota, Andhra Pradesh.
  • Stage 2 transitions the launch vehicle from the atmospheric phase to the deep vacuum of outer space, ensuring precision and efficiency.
  • The Kalam-250 uses a high-strength carbon composite rocket motor with solid fuel and a high-performance Ethylene-Propylene-Diene terpolymers (EPDM) Thermal Protection System (TPS).
  • The Vikram-1 marks India’s first private orbital rocket launch, following the suborbital space launch of Vikram-S in November 2022.
  • Skyroot Aerospace is developing three different Vikram rocket versions: Vikram-I, Vikram-II, and Vikram-III.
  • The Prarambh mission aims to carry three payloads into space, including a 2.5-kilogram payload developed by students from several countries.
