Union Sports Minister Anurag Singh Thakur Kicks Off BIMSTEC Aquatics Championships 2024 In New Delhi.

  • The event, held at Delhi’s Dr. Syama Prasad Mookerjee Swimming Pool Complex, is the first of its kind in India. 
  • Thakur highlighted the importance of the event, stating that 25% of the world’s population lives in South Asia and Southeast Asia. 
  • He emphasized the significance of the event in the Bay of Bengal region, which is now a hub for travel, development, and collaboration. 
  • The event, which was initially planned for 2021 but postponed due to the COVID-19 pandemic, will feature competitions for Under 20 age categories in Swimming, Water Polo, and Diving. 
  • Over 500 personnel, including 268 athletes from various BIMSTEC member countries, are expected to attend.
