Tourism Ministry Notifies 57 Destinations for Swadesh Darshan Development

  • The Ministry of Tourism is responsible for national policies, programs, and coordination of tourism development and promotion activities. 
  • Major functions include policy matters, planning, coordination with other ministries, regulation, infrastructure & product development, research, analysis, monitoring and evaluation, international cooperation and external assistance, legislation and parliamentary work, overall review of the functioning of the field offices, and marketing & promotion work.
  • Promotions are undertaken through the Ministry’s website, social media platforms, promotional materials, films, and other collaterals.
  • The Ministry of Tourism participates in travel fairs/exhibitions in overseas markets and releases media campaigns under the “Incredible India” brand line.
  • The Swadesh Darshan Scheme, launched in 2014-15, has sanctioned 76 projects, with 57 destinations notified for development under SD2.0. 
  • The National Mission on Pilgrimage Rejuvenation and Spiritual Heritage Augmentation Drive (PRASHAD) Scheme, launched in 2014-15, aims to develop pilgrimage/spiritual tourism infrastructure at identified destinations.
  • The Ministry has sanctioned 46 projects under the PRASHAD Scheme.
