Salem’s Vela van Wins International Squash Event For India

  • HCL, a global conglomerate, announced the successful completion of the second leg of the HCL-SRFI Indian Tour in Jodhpur. 
  • The tournament, held at Umaid Bhawan Palace and Bodhi International School, saw 48 players from 9 countries compete for the title. 
  • Abhay Singh from India won in the men’s category and Amina Orfi from Egypt in the women’s category. 
  • The winners were felicitated by Jodhpur’s Yuvrani Gayatri Rajye, Mr Rajat Chandolia, Associate Vice-President and Head of HCL Brand, Mr. Cyrus Poncha, Secretary of Squash Rackets Federation of India (SRFI), and Mrs Bhuvneshwari Kumari, a 16-time National Champion. 
  • The event also helped improve the ranking of Indian squash players and provided them with a level playing field to compete against their international counterparts. 
  • The final match in the men’s category was between Abhay Singh (World Rank 81) and Zahed Salem (World Rank 71). 
  • The Squash Rackets Federation of India (SRFI) oversees the promotion and development of the sport in India.
