Rooftop Solar Scheme Gets Cabinet Approval

  • PM-Surya Ghar: Muft Bijli Yojana approved by the Union Cabinet for installing rooftop solar and providing free electricity to One Crore households. 
  • The scheme aims to save electricity bills and earn additional income through the sale of surplus power to DISCOMs. 
  • The total outlay of the scheme is Rs.75, 021 Crore, with a cap of Rs 78,000 for 3 kW systems or higher. 
  • The scheme will be launched through the National Portal, assisting households in their decision-making process. 
  • Households can access collateral-free low-interest loan products for residential RTS systems up to 3 kW. 
  • The scheme will result in an additional 30 GW of solar capacity in the residential sector, generating 1000 BUs of electricity and reducing 720 million tonnes of CO2 equivalent emissions over the 25-year lifetime of rooftop systems. 
  • The scheme is estimated to create around 17 lakh direct jobs in manufacturing, logistics, supply chain, sales, installation, O&M, and other services.
