Revised Pārbati – Chambal River Linking Project Signed

  • MoU signed between Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh and Ministry of Jal Shakti Govt. Of India.
  • At New Delhi.
  • For the implementation of the “Modified PKC-ERCP” (integration of original PKC with Eastern Rajasthan Canal Project of Rajasthan).
  • It is the second project under the interlinking of rivers (ILR) programme of the Government of India.

Key Highlights:

  • It will lead to joint development and inter-basin water transfers in the Chambal basin on the lines of the Ken-Betwa Link Project.
  • The Feasibility Report (FR) of the project under the National Perspective Plan (NPP) was prepared and circulated to the concerned State Governments in February 2004.
  • In 2019, Rajasthan came up with the proposal of ERCP.
  • It was discussed in the 11th and 12th meetings of the Task Force for Interlinking of Rivers (TFILR) in 2019.
  • Special Committee for Interlinking of Rivers (SCILR), had its 20th meeting on 13.12.2022 in New Delhi.
  • It approved the “Modified PKC-ERCP” link as part of the National Perspective Plan.
  • It proposes to provide drinking and industrial water in 13 districts of eastern Rajasthan, Malwa and Chambal regions of Madhya Pradesh and irrigation in 2.8 lakh ha. Area (or more) each in both the states including supplementation of enroute tanks.
  • Based on the outcome of DPR (Detailed Project Repay) a Memorandum of Agreement (MoA) would be finalized.
