Rajya Sabha Passes ‘Public Examinations (Prevention of Unfair Means) Bill, 2024’

  • The Rajya Sabha passed ‘The Public Examinations (Prevention of Unfair Means) Bill, 2024’ to curb paper leaks, malpractices, and organized malpractices in recruitment examinations like UPSC, SSC, etc. and entrance tests such as NEET, JEE, and CUET. 
  • Union Minister Dr Jitendra Singh emphasized the importance of the youth, who constitute the majority 70% of the population, in nation-building. 
  • The Bill, which has already been passed by the Lok Sabha, will become a law after the accent follows the S issue of notification. 
  • The Bill will cover entrance examinations held by the Union Public Service Commission, the Staff Selection Commission, the Railways, banking recruitment examinations, and all computer-based examinations conducted by the National Testing Agency. 
  • The Bill will ensure more transparency and a time-bound selection process and provide a level-playing field. 
  • Dr Jitendra Singh highlighted the progress made under Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s leadership, including India’s economic growth, the 3rd largest Startup Ecosystem globally, and the rise of private Space startups. 
  • The Modi Government has initiated several youth-centric provisions and schemes, such as ensuring transparency and providing equal opportunity and a level-playing field in recruitment and higher studies. 
  • The level of merit of the new appointees has gone up, and the future of the youth up to 40 years of age, who comprise 70% of the population, is at stake.
