Public Examinations (Prevention of Unfair Means) Bill, 2024 Introduced By Government

  • The “Public Examinations (Prevention of Unfair Means) Bill, 2024” is introduced to curb paper leaks, malpractices, and organized malpractices in recruitment exams and entrance tests. 
  • The bill was introduced by Dr. Jitendra Singh, the Union Minister of State (Independent Charge) Science & Technology; MoS PMO, Personnel, Public Grievances, Pensions, Atomic Energy and Space. 
  • The bill will cover entrance examinations held by the Union Public Service Commission, the Staff Selection Commission, the Railways, banking recruitment examinations, and all computer-based examinations conducted by the National Testing Agency. 
  • The proposed punishment for cheating is a minimum of three to five years of imprisonment. Those involved in organized cheating crimes will face five to 10 years of imprisonment and a minimum fine of Rs 1 Crore. 
  • The bill aims to deter nefarious elements that exploit vulnerabilities within and outside the examination systems. 
  • The objective is to bring greater transparency, fairness, and credibility to the Public Examination systems and reassure the youths that their efforts will be fairly rewarded.
