President Appoints First Woman VC for Aligarh Muslim University

  • Naima Khatoon, a PhD holder in psychology from AMU, has been appointed as the Vice Chancellor of AMU. 
  • The appointment was approved by President Droupadi Murmu and the Election Commission of India (ECI) due to the Model Code of Conduct (MCC). 
  • Khatoon was appointed as a lecturer in 1988 and later as the principal of the Women’s College in 2014. 
  • AMU, founded in 1875, became AMU in 1920 and is one of the oldest universities in India. 
  • The university has had no woman vice chancellor so far.
