PDS Department Sign MoU with MSDE and SIDBI to Develop Ration Shops

  • The Department of Food and Public Distribution (DoF&PD) has signed two MoUs with the Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship (MSDE) and the Small Industries Development Bank of India (SIDBI) to transform Fair Price Shops (FPSs) in India. 
  • The MoUs aim to address skill development challenges faced by FPS dealers, particularly in areas of digital literacy, financial literacy, and entrepreneurial skills. 
  • The MoUs were signed on 14th March 2024, in the presence of Shri Ravi Shankar, Director, DoFPD, Dr. Poonam Sinha, Director, NIESBUD, Shri Dharmendra Pradhan, and Union Minister for Education, Skill Development & Entrepreneurship, Shri Sanjeev Chopra, Secretary, DoF&PD, and Shri Atul Kumar Tiwari, Secretary, MSDE. 
  • The partnership will enable FPSs to operate on a credit model for selling non-PDS commodities through SIDBI’s GST Sahay application. 
  • The two MoUs are a breakthrough in capacity building and opening investment & financing opportunities for FPSs in the country. 
  • The Department of Food and Public Distribution has launched a pilot project to on-board FPSs on the Open Network Digital Commerce (ONDC), providing numerous benefits for FPS dealers.
