Nobel Laureate Morten Meldal Visits India for Bilateral Cooperation in Pharmaceuticals

  • Nobel laureate Prof. Morten Meldal, a professor at the University of Copenhagen, Denmark, met with Union Minister of State (Independent Charge) Science & Technology, Dr Jitendra Singh, in New Delhi.
  • Prof. Meldal highlighted Denmark’s vibrant biotechnology and pharmaceutical industry, including world-class laboratories.
  • Denmark is home to major international pharmaceutical companies like Novo Nordisk, Lund Beck, LEO Pharma, and ALK.
  • Denmark’s biotech and pharma cluster is globally recognized for cutting-edge research in cancer, the central nervous system, diabetes care, and inflammatory and infectious diseases.
  • Prof. Meldal expressed interest in India’s Biotechnology and Biological Technology (BT) and Pharma Industry and proposed a long-term plan for collaboration. 
  • Prof. Meldal and his wife, Phaedria Marie St. Hilaire, expressed interest in a program to raise awareness about Chemistry in young minds. 
  • Dr. Singh also mentioned India’s interest in renewable energy technology as the country aims for Net Zero emission targets by 2070.
