New Projects Work Rs 17,300 Cr Coming Up In Thoothukudi

  • Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi dedicates multiple development projects worth over Rs 17,300 crores in Thoothukudi, Tamil Nadu. 
  • The projects include the foundation stone for the Outer Harbor Container Terminal at V.O.Chidambaranar Port, India’s first indigenous green hydrogen fuel cell inland waterway vessel, tourist facilities in 75 lighthouses across 10 States/UTs, rail projects for doubling of Vanchi Maniyachchi – Nagercoil rail line, and four road projects in Tamil Nadu. 
  • The Prime Minister emphasizes that these projects will give momentum to development in multiple places across India. 
  • The Prime Minister reiterates the journey of Viksit Bharat and the role of Tamil Nadu in it. 
  • The projects will benefit Tamil Nadu and create employment avenues in the state. 
  • The Prime Minister emphasized that these projects are the people’s demands and that previous governments never paid attention to them. 
  • The Prime Minister also inaugurated projects aimed at making the V.O.Chidambaranar Port the first Green Hydrogen Hub Port of the country, including a desalination plant, hydrogen production, and bunkering facility.


Prime Minister Modi’s Progress in Tamil Nadu 


  • Prime Minister Modi highlighted the development of rail and road projects in Tamil Nadu, including electrification and doubling of rail lines. 
  • He also highlighted four major projects for modernizing roadways worth over Rs 4,000 crores, aiming to boost connectivity, reduce travel time, and encourage trade and tourism. 
  • The Prime Minister emphasized the whole-of-government approach of New India, involving roads, highways, and waterways departments to create better connectivity and opportunities. 
  • He expressed pride in dedicating tourist facilities to 75 lighthouses across 10 states/UTs, predicting these will become major tourist centers. 
  • The Prime Minister also highlighted the central government’s initiatives, including 1300 km long rail projects, 2000 km railway electrification, the creation of a flyover and underpass, and up gradation of many railway stations. 
  • He emphasized the importance of the waterways and maritime sector in India, highlighting the growth of V.O.Chidambaranar Port and other major ports. 
  • The Prime Minister emphasized India’s progress in waterways and maritime sectors, with a jump to 38 in the logistics performance index and a doubled port capacity in one decade.
