National Web series Swaraj Launched in Amazon Prime OTT

  • Union Minister for Information and Broadcasting, Shri Anurag Singh Thakur, launched the first season of “Swaraj” on Amazon Prime in Mumbai.
    • The series, inspired by Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi’s “Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav” national campaign, tells the story of countless heroes of India’s freedom struggle.
    • The series, which covers 75 episodes, helps understand the meaning, origins, and consequences of colonialism.
    • The series aims to help the national and international audience understand the spirit of India and the 500-year-long struggle to gain independence from colonial rulers.
    • Shri Thakur emphasized the importance of pride in one’s rich historical legacy for creating a great future.
    • The government is focused on enabling the Media & Entertainment sector to thrive and achieve greater heights on an international scale.
    • The series showcases India’s journey from the arrival of Vasco Da Gama in 1498 to the attainment of independence in 1947.
    • The telecast began on 14th August 2022 in Hindi on DD National and later in nine regional languages on Doordarshan’s regional networks.
    • The first season will consist of 10 episodes and will be available in 7 regional languages. Subtitles have also been made available in Hindi and English for the convenience of viewers.
