National Livestock Mission Is Amended With Cabinet Approval

  • The National Livestock Mission (NLM) has been modified by the Union Cabinet, chaired by Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi. 
  • The new activities include the establishment of entrepreneurship for horses, donkeys, mules, and camels with 50% capital subsidy up to 50 lakhs. – Establishment of entrepreneurs for fodder seed processing Infrastructure with 50% capital subsidy up to Rs.50 lakhs. – Assistance for fodder cultivation in non-forest land, wasteland/range land/nonarable, and forest land. – Simplified Livestock Insurance program with a reduced beneficiary share of 15%. 
  • The number of animals to be insured has been increased to 10 cattle units instead of 5 cattle units for cattle sheep and goats. 
  • The NLM was re-aligned in 2021-22 with three Sub-Missions – Breed improvement of Livestock and Poultry, Feed & Fodder, and Innovation and Extension.
