Ministries of Ayush and Women and Child Development to Help Girl Nutrition

  • The Ministry of Ayush and the Ministry of Women and Child Development have signed a MoU for nutritional improvement in adolescent girls using Ayurveda interventions. 
  • The MoU is a joint public health initiative under Mission Utkarsh, aiming to control anemia among adolescent girls in five districts. 
  • The first phase of the initiative will focus on improving the anemic status of adolescent girls in five aspirational districts of five states. 
  • The project will cover approximately 10,000 Anganwadi Centres in the five districts. 
  • The Ministry of Ayush and the Ministry of Women and Child Development aim to make India free of anemia and achieve the goal of ‘Anaemia Mukt Bharat’ (Anaemia Free India). 
  • The Ministry of Ayush Secretary Vaidya Rajesh Kotecha highlighted the importance of traditional medicine in primary health settings. 
  • The Ministry of Women and Child Development aims to address malnutrition in children, adolescent girls, and pregnant women through the “Sachem Aanganbaadi” and “Poshan” Schemes. 
  • The Central Council for Research in Ayurvedic Sciences (CCRAS) has conducted successful public health initiatives in this field.
