Maldives Want Indian Military Cut

  • The new government under President┬áMohamed Muizzu is reviewing more than ICO agreements signed with India.
  • He formally requested India to withdraw its troops from his country.
  • They had established that there are 77 Indian military personnel in the Maldives.
  • 24 Indian military personnel manage the first helicopter, 25 manage Dornier aircraft 26 manage the second helicopter, and two maintenance and engineering personnel.
  • Union Minister of Earth Sciences Kiren Rijiju attended the President’s inauguration ceremony.
  • The new President had built his presidential campaign on the promise of expelling Indian military personnel from the Maldives reviewing agreements between Maldives and India, and disclosing its contents where possible.
  • The agreements in question include the Uthuru Thila Falhu (UTF) agreement and other defence agreements.
