Jal Shakti Abhiyan – Catch the Rain 2024 Campaign Launched

  • Union Minister Shri Gajendra Singh Shekhawat launched the fifth edition of the “Jal Shakti Abhiyan: Catch the Rain” campaign on 9th March 2024, at the NDMC Convention Centre in New Delhi. 
  • The campaign, titled “Nari Shakti se Jal Shakti,” emphasizes the role of women in water conservation and management. 
  • The campaign is under the National Water Mission, Department of Water Resources, River Development & Ganga Rejuvenation, and Department of Drinking Water & Sanitation.
  • Shekhawat launched two books, “Jal Shakti Abhiyan 2019 to 2023- The Journey for Sustainable Water Future” and “101 Glimpse of Women Power: Through the Prism of Jal Jeevan Mission.” 
  • The event included a ‘Jal Kalash’ ceremony, short films, and a documentary of Ladakh. 
  • Shekhawat emphasized the importance of water conservation and sustainable management, highlighting the role of women in water resource conservation. 
  • She praised the efforts of women in successful schemes like Jal Shakti Abhiyan, Swachh Bharat Abhiyan, Jal Jeevan Mission, and Atal Bhujal Yojna.
  • She urged all citizens to actively participate in “Jal Shakti Abhiyan: Catch the Rain” – 2024, viewing it as a transformative movement towards a water-secure and sustainable future. 
  • The campaign will focus on water conservation, rainwater harvesting, enumerating, geo-tagging, and inventorying all water bodies, preparing scientific plans for water conservation, setting up Jal Shakti Kendras in all districts, intensive afforestation, and awareness generation. 
  • The campaign will also focus on de-silting and cleaning of water bodies, revitalizing abandoned/defunct bore wells for groundwater recharge, geo-tagging of water bodies, intensified afforestation efforts, snow harvesting in hilly areas, and rejuvenation of small rivers.
