International Millet Festivals Ends In Rome

  • The International Year of Millets 2023 was held at the FAO headquarters in Rome, Italy, on 29 March 2024. 
  • The event was a hybrid event, allowing participants to participate in-person and virtually. 
  • Smt. Maninder Kaur Dwivedi, Additional Secretary, Department of Agriculture and Farmers Welfare, highlighted India’s achievements in the global campaign of the superfood. 
  • The ceremony was graced by dignitaries from various parts of the world, including the Director-General of FAO, Dr. QU Dongyu, and Minister and Permanent Representative of the Federal Republic of Nigeria to FAO, Mr. Yaya Adisa Olaitan Olaitan. 
  • The ceremony also featured a video showcasing the diverse activities and events organized under the International Year of Millets 2023. 
  • The United Nations General Assembly declared 2023 as the International Year of Millets, raising awareness about millet consumption’s nutritional and health benefits. 
  • The closing ceremony served as a forum to take stock of the accomplishments of IYM 2023 and identify priorities for future investments.
