INS Jatayu in Lakshadweep’s Minicoy Gives Boost to India’s Ocean Might

  • INS Jatayu was commissioned at Minicoy Island, Lakshadweep, on March 24, 2024. 
  • The event strengthens the Indian Navy’s foothold in the region, extending capacity building, operational reach, and sustenance. 
  • The Naval Base at Minicoy will enhance connectivity with the mainland and focus on comprehensive island development. 
  • The unit will operate under the operational control of the Naval Officer in Charge (Lakshadweep), Southern Naval Command. 
  • The commissioning ceremony included the presentation of a 50-man Guard of Honour, the reading of the commissioning warrant, and the inauguration of the Maritime Operations Centre at Minicoy.
