India’s Trade Shipment of India’a Sangola Pomegranates Will Reach US

  • India flagged off its first commercial trial shipment of Pomegranates to the US via sea on 28th February 2024. 
  • The shipment, comprising 4200 boxes (12.6 tons), was flagged off by dignitaries from various sectors. 
  • The event was graced by dignitaries from the Maharashtra State Agricultural Marketing Board, Regional Plant Quarantine Station, State Agriculture Department, NRC Pomegranate, US Consulate, and InI Farms. 
  • APEDA aims for a successful sign-off for this consignment via sea to open trade relations to potential markets for Indian Pomegranates. 
  • The fruit was sourced from Anarnet registered farmers from Sangola in Maharashtra, receiving a premium of 20% compared to other export markets and 35% compared to the domestic market. 
  • APEDA has facilitated pomegranate exports worth $58.36 Million in 2022-23 to various countries. 
  • The initiative aims to build trust between Indian exporters and foreign importers in terms of quality assurance.
