India-Finland First Meeting on Education

  • The Secretary, Dept. Of Higher Education, Ministry of Education and Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Education and Culture (Finland) had the meeting online.
  • The 1st India- Finland High-Level Dialogue Meeting.

Key Highlights:

  • Policies in School Education, Vocational Education and Higher Education.
  • To promote a richer collaboration.
  • Areas of mutual interest: early to senior secondary education, higher education, student mobility and skill development.
  • Collaborating on capacity building of teachers, particularly STEM educators.
  • Digital technology in various areas of education.
  • Research collaborations in areas of new and emerging technologies, AI, Quantum Tech, sustainability, and climate change.
  • The Indian side briefed upon new regulations for the internationalization of higher education under NEP 2020.

Background:

  • 2024 marks 75 years of diplomatic relations between the two countries.
  • Had signed a Migration & Mobility Partnership Agreement in December 2022, for mobility of trained manpower from India.
  • National Council of Educational Research and Training (NCERT) signed a 5-year MoU with the Finnish National Agency of Education (EDUFI) in March 2022 to promote educational cooperation through the sharing of information and content in areas of mutual interest.
  • ongoing joint initiatives: Finnish Indian Consortium for Research and Education (FICORE), Global Innovation Network for Teaching and Learning (GINTL), Scheme Promotion of Academic and Research Collaboration (SPARC) and Global Initiative of Academic Network (GIAN).
