“FTII Student Wins ‘La Cinef’ Award At 77th Cannes Film Festival”

  • Chidanand S Naik, a student from the Film and Television Institute of India (FTII), has won the ‘La Cinef Award for Best Short at the 77th Cannes Film Festival. 
  • The film, directed by Naik, was shot by Suraj Thakur, edited by Manoj V, and mastered by Abhishek Kadam. 
  • The award is a historic moment for Indian Cinema, as FTII has consistently performed well at Cannes, with its students’ films being screened at the festival in recent years. 
  • The film is part of the TV Wing’s One-year program, where four students from different disciplines worked on a year-end project. 
  • This is the first time a film by a student from FTII’s 1-year Television course has been selected and won at the prestigious Cannes Film Festival. 
  • The film was among 18 shorts selected from a total of 2,263 films submitted by 555 film schools worldwide. 
  • FTII’s unique pedagogy and focus on the practice-based co-learning approach to education have resulted in the Institute’s students and alumni winning accolades in various National and International Film festivals.
