Flood Management and Border Areas Programme Approved

  • The Union Cabinet, chaired by Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi, approved the continuation of the “Flood Management and Border Areas Programme (FMBAP)” with a total outlay of Rs. 4,100 Crore for five years from 2021-22 to 2025-26. 
  • The FMBAP consists of two components: the Flood Management Programme (FMP) component with an outlay of Rs. 2940 Crore, and the River Management and Border Areas (RMBA) component with an outlay of Rs. 1160 Crore. 
  • The Union Government aims to supplement State Governments’ efforts in flood management, encouraging the adoption of modern technology and innovative materials. 
  • The RMBA component also protects important installations of security agencies, border outposts, etc. along the border rivers from flood and erosion.
