Emergency Landing Will Be Activated All Across India by Air Force

  • Indian Air Force (IAF) recently operated from the Emergency Landing Facility (ELF) in Kashmir Valley during the Gagan Shakti-24 exercise. 
  • Troops were airlifted and landed using Chinook, Mi-17 V5, and ALH Mk-III helicopters. 
  • IAF plans to practice similar drills in other sectors, involving coordination with state government administrations. 
  • IAF fixed and rotary wing platforms will carry out coordinated landing and operations at ELFs. 
  • ELF operations allow the IAF to undertake humanitarian assistance in disaster relief operations. 
  • The capability to operate by night and transfer troops from ELFs will enhance operational capabilities.
