Dot Has Issued Advisory to Indians against Fraud International Calls

  • The Department of Telecommunications (DoT) has issued an advisory against calls impersonating DoT, threatening to disconnect mobile numbers or misuse them for illegal activities.
  • The DoT has also warned against WhatsApp calls from foreign-origin mobile numbers impersonating government officials.
  • The calls are used by cybercriminals to carry out cyber-crime and financial frauds.
  • The DoT advises citizens to report such fraud communications at the ‘Chakshu-Report Suspected Fraud Communications’ facility of the Sanchar Saathi portal.
  • Citizens can also check their mobile connections at ‘Know Your Mobile Connections’ and report any untaken or unnecessary mobile connections.
  • Citizens are advised to report at cyber-crime helpline number 1930 or www.cybercrime.gov.in if they have been a victim of cyber-crime or financial fraud.
