Defence Ministry Huge Contracts worth Around 39,000

  • The Ministry of Defence (MoD) signed five major capital acquisition contracts worth Rs 39,125.39 Crore on March 1, 2024, as part of the ‘Aatmanirbharta in Defence’ initiative. 
  • The contracts were exchanged in the presence of Raksha Mantri Shri Rajnath Singh and Defence Secretary Shri Giridhar Aramane. 
  • One of the contracts was with M/s Hindustan Aeronautics Limited for procurement of Aero-engines for MiG-29 aircraft. 
  • Two contracts were signed with M/s Larsen & Toubro Limited for the procurement of a Close-in Weapon System (CIWS) and procurement of High-Power Radar (HPR). 
  • The contracts aim to strengthen indigenous capabilities, save foreign exchange, and reduce dependency on foreign-origin equipment manufacturers. 
  • The contracts will provide terminal Air Defence to select locations of the country, boost Indian aerospace, defense, and associated industries, and generate approximately an average of 2,400 persons/year over five years. 
  • The contracts will also replace existing long-range radars with modern Active Aperture Phased Array-based HPR with advanced surveillance features. 
  • The procurement of BrahMos missiles and the Shipborne BrahMos system will be utilized to meet the combat outfit and training requirements of the Indian Navy.
