Cabinet Approves 6 Multi-Tracking Projects Across Indian Railways

  • Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs approved six multi-tracking projects across Indian Railways. 
  • Projects aim to ease travel, reduce logistics costs, reduce oil imports, and lower CO2 emissions. 
  • The projects will increase existing line capacity, improve train operations, and reduce congestion. 
  • The projects will generate direct employment for about 3 Crore man-days during construction. 
  • The financial outgo of the projects is estimated to be Rs 12,343 Crore, with completion expected by 2029-30. 
  • The projects cover 18 districts in 6 states, increasing the existing network of Indian Railways by 1020 km. 
  • The projects are part of the PM-Gati Shakti National Master Plan for multi-model connectivity. 
  • The projects are essential for the transportation of commodities like food grains, fertilizers, coal, cement, iron, steel, fly-ash, clinker, limestone, POL, and container.
