Ayush and Tribal Affairs Ministries Announce Joint Health Initiative for Tribal Students

  • Union Minister of Ayush and Ports, Shipping, and Waterways Shri Sarbananda Sonowal announced a joint National Level Project of Health Screening and Management through Ayurvedic Interventions. 
  • The initiative will benefit over 20,000 Tribal Students. 
  • The project is part of a joint initiative between the Ministry of Ayush, the Research Council for Ayurvedic Studies (CCRAS), the Ministry of Tribal Affairs, and ICMR-NIRTH Jabalpur. 
  • The initiative aims to address the health needs of children in Eklavya Model Residential Schools across tribal areas. 
  • The project will focus on Malnutrition, Iron deficiency Anaemia, and Sickle Cell Diseases through Ayurveda interventions. 
  • The initiative aims to develop healthy lifestyle practices among students and promote an integrated approach to disease management. 
  • A Memorandum of Understanding was signed between the Ministry of Ayush and the Ministry of Tribal Affairs in October 2022. 
  • The schools provide quality education to Scheduled Tribes children in remote areas, focusing on all-round development, including good health.
