Army Gets Drones Developed By Anna University

  • Drones capable of flying 50-kg payload.
  • Will help in logistical operations, and expedite the delivery of large quantities of essential supplies including arms and ammunition, life-saving medicines etc., to armed forces deployed in high-altitude and other risky terrains.
  • Developed by the Scientists at the Centre for Aerospace Research, Madras Institute of Technology (MIT), Anna University.
  • Currently relying on traditional methods such as mule transportation or helicopter services for the delivery of supplies.
  • An order for procuring 500 drones each with a 15 kg payload was placed by the Army earlier.
  • The Army wants drones with a carrying capacity of 80 Kg for shifting injured or sick personnel from the forward station to the base camp.
