ADITI Scheme for Defence Innovation Launched

  • Raksha Mantri, and Shri Rajnath Singh, launched the Acing Development of Innovative Technologies with iDEX (ADITI) scheme to promote innovations in critical and strategic defence technologies. 
  • The scheme, worth Rs 750 Crore for the period 2023-24 to 2025-26, falls under the iDEX (Innovations for Defence Excellence) framework of the Department of Defence Production (DDP), Ministry of Defence. 
  • The scheme aims to develop about 30 deep-tech critical and strategic technologies and create a ‘Technology Watch Tool’ to bridge the gap between the expectations and requirements of the modern Armed Forces and the capabilities of the defense innovation ecosystem. 
  • The scheme has been expanded to iDEX Prime, with assistance increasing from Rs 1.5 Crore to Rs 10 Crore. 
  • The schemes aim to transform India into a knowledge society, aiming to achieve a technological edge and transform the country into a knowledge society. 
  • The 11th edition of the Defence India Start-up Challenge (DISC) was launched, introducing 22 problem statements aimed at addressing critical defense challenges. 
  • Singh emphasized the importance of ‘getting a hold on state-of-the-art defense technology’ for self-reliance and emphasized the need for research and development (R&D) to develop required technologies.
