Academic Bank of Credit Launched Through Common Service Centres (Cscs)

  • The Academic Bank of Credit (ABC) is a digital repository for students, enabling easy access to their academic records.
  • Launched under the National Education Policy (NEP 2020), APAAR is mandatory for all college/university-going students.
  • The scheme is being implemented through CSCs in remote villages in India.
  • The provisional APAAR ID is to be given to all school children authenticated with Aadhaar and linked to Digi Locker.
  • A business model for this service is being considered for Village Level Entrepreneurs (VLEs).
  • The system aims to make school and higher education more transparent and easier.
  • The role of CSCs in APAAR and Samarth is significant, to cover at least 10,000 institutions in the next 1.5 years.
  • The APAAR ID will remain with students for their entire life and will be used for future credit.
  • The initiative aims to curb illegal activities and provide a platform for schools lacking the infrastructure for online services.
