Projects to Come Up Under the Buddhist Development Plan

  • Union Minister of Minority Affairs and Women & Child Development, Smt. Smriti Irani laid the foundation stone for 38 projects approved under the Buddhist Development Plan under the aegis of Pradhan Mantri Jan Vikas Karyakram. 
  • The projects, totaling Rs. 225 crore, are located in Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Arunachal Pradesh, Sikkim, and the Union Territory of Ladakh. 
  • The Minister announced financial assistance of Rs. 30 Crores for strengthening the Centre for Advanced Studies in Buddhist Studies of the University of Delhi. 
  • The initiative aligns with the ‘Viksit Bharat’, aiming to conserve Buddhist cultural heritage and knowledge while providing modern education. 
  • The event was ceremoniously conducted in the respective states and the UT, with the presence of various dignitaries. 
  • The Union Ministry of Minority Affairs has launched a program titled the Buddhist Development Plan (BDP) to secularize traditional theological education and provide modern education and professional/vocational and skill development courses for the young Buddhist population in these areas.
