3 Semiconductor Units Including Tata’s Gets Approval

  • The Union Cabinet, chaired by Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi, has approved the establishment of three semiconductor units under the ‘Development of Semiconductors and Display Manufacturing Ecosystems in India’. 
  • The units will commence construction within the next 100 days. 
  • The total outlay for the development of these units was Rs. 76,000 Crore. 
  • The units are part of the Programme for Development of Semiconductors and Display Manufacturing Ecosystem in India. 
  • The units will cover high-performance computer chips and power management chips for various applications. 
  • The units will also develop indigenous advanced semiconductor packaging technologies.
  • The units will generate direct employment of 20 thousand advanced technology jobs and about 60 thousand indirect jobs. 
  • The units will accelerate employment creation in downstream industries such as automotive, electronics manufacturing, telecom manufacturing, and industrial manufacturing.
