22nd Foundation Day of BEE

  • The 22nd Foundation Day of the Bureau of Energy Efficiency (BEE) was celebrated on March 1, 2024, under the theme “Energy Transition through Electrification and Decarbonisation in India.” 
  • The event was graced by Union Power and New & Renewable Energy Minister Shri R. K. Singh. 
  • The celebration included the launch of two BEE Standards and Labeling Programs for Packaged Boilers and Commercial Beverage Coolers. 
  • The Minister also released the inaugural edition of India EV Digest and the fifth edition of the State Energy Efficiency Index. 
  • The BEE has helped India reduce its energy consumption by around 3.5% and carbon emissions by more than 306 million tonnes per annum. 
  • The Minister congratulated BEE for its innovative and world-leading schemes and programs. Energy Efficiency Measures in India 
  • The Minister emphasizes the need to encourage small and cottage industries to adopt energy efficiency measures. 
  • He suggests co-opting states to implement energy-efficient and green buildings. 
  • The Minister also calls for the inclusion of green aspects in architects’ courses to ensure energy efficiency features.
  • The Minister emphasizes the need to educate the public about energy efficiency and encourages other states to learn from developed countries. 
  • The State Energy Efficiency Index 2023 released indicates that developed states are doing better, urging other states to adopt a forward-looking approach. 
  • A Standards and Labeling Program for Packaged Boilers has been launched to improve the energy efficiency of packaged boilers. 
  • The program is voluntary and valid until 31 December 2026.
  • The penetration of EE-label boilers is expected to increase from 10% in 2024 to 100% in 2033. 
  • The implementation of the star label for commercial beverage coolers is expected to yield energy savings of 11.67 Billion kWh between 2024 and 2034. 
  • Visi Coolers, self-contained bottle coolers, are being launched to improve their energy efficiency.
